Immediate Post-Operative Prosthetics (IPOP)

Roger Wolfson has received tremendous acclaim where it pertains to the use of the Immediate Post-Operative Prosthesis (IPOP) technique for leg amputations. This technique involves the application of a rigid cast immediately post-surgery while the patient is still in the operating theater, and the attachment of a prosthesis soon thereafter, enabling the patient to walk in as little as three weeks post-surgery.

Where the opportunity allows, Roger Wolfson can assist the surgeon performing an amputation to remove the affected limb in such a manner as to ensure that the residual limb is better equipped to fit the new prosthetic.

Even with a well-functioning suspension system or set of components consisting of a socket, lock and sleeves, the prosthetic fit is of the utmost importance; since, a comfortable prosthetic socket will ultimately ensure a better outcome during rehabilitation.

Post-operative rehabilitation and ongoing treatment

Once a patient has undergone surgery, it often arises that the residual limb will change frequently during the healing process. In such cases, Roger Wolfson will continue to work with the patient on an ongoing basis and assess the need for adjustments to the prosthetic as time passes, and will fit a new prosthetic should this be necessary.

Medical aid funding Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs)

At Roger Wolfson and Associates, we are passionate about doing whatever it takes in going the extra mile to ensure that our patients receive the funding needed for a basic prosthesis made available within the Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs).

It is often the case that patients with regular medical aid plans will not be aware of the funding options available to them within the Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs). Roger Wolfson is equipped to liaise with the medical aid scheme in question on the patients behalf to ensure that the maximum funding is obtained to cater for additional prosthetic needs going forward.
